Shopping in historic Salado, Texas.
The year 2009 celebrates the
beginning of ten years online for Mexican Food & Gifts To Go - how
would we mark this anniversary year? We thought....why not open a
retail location! Our online store visitors have suggested for
several years we should have a store front so they may stop in for
shopping and a lot of sampling! Allow us to introduce you to the
village of Salado Texas, a historic town of less than 5,000
residents with a tourism roster of over 2 million. Easily accessible
along the I-35 corridor between Waco and Austin, Salado was one of
the original stops for the stage coach lines along the Chisholm
Trail - the dirt trail used by cattle ranchers to drive their herds
from their ranches in Texas to the Kansas railheads.

Today, the main
industry is tourism and Salado knows how to entertain its guests!
Gentlemen, you need not worry - you will find a challenging twenty
seven hole Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course that will make your
day a sensation while the ladies find their calling in the shops!
We found the future store property by accident quite frankly while
on a leisure drive through the Texas hill country and decided to
visit the historic village of Salado after hearing about the great shopping venues and art
galleries. An instant love affair with the village of Salado is no
understatement friends - it was an on the spot decision with hopes we had a chance to buy the property and
open the doors of Ya Gotta Have It!
by the start of high summer season in May, 2009. We will feature all
the Tex-Mex products and gifts found in our
Mexican Food & Gifts To Go online store with
an emphasis on sampling! Once you've tasted our gourmet
Tex-Mex food...we
expect to hear "we gotta have it"! Texas now numbers twenty seven
wineries in the hill country and we hope to proudly carry several
fine wines from these vineyards as well. Remember to look for our
store Ya Gotta Have It! in Salado Texas, one of the
best shopping villages in all of Central Texas on I-35, nestled
between exit 284 and 285.

Gotta Have It!

The historic village of Salado,
Texas was founded in 1859 by Scottish settlers who were easily lured
here by the rich soil and numerous water beds. It quickly rose as a
center for culture and commerce. Before the Scots arrived, the land
was a campground for Indian tribes hunting wild game, hence the Spanish name, meaning "salty". Later,
two
area lakes and a river provided nesting for the first stagecoach
stop on the networks of cattle trails moving cowboys and cattle from
San Antonio to Missouri and beyond.
Presently, Salado is known statewide as
the best art town in Texas! This tourist town is home to ten art
galleries, along with twenty three Texas historical markers;
eighteen of the village's buildings are presently listed on the
National Register of Historic Places in the USA.

There are over one hundred seventy five
shops featuring art, wine, home decor, antiques, stamps, gifts and
gourmet food. Stroll through the historical
district and you'll come across over thirty sculptures by renown
artists. Every weekend of the year, there is an annual calendar
event scheduled drawing tourist nationwide.
We will post the annual
events on this webpage with full intentions that you'll come visit
us! Park the car, and enjoy the friendly atmosphere found in every
